What If the Actual Cargo Measurements are Different From What I Entered in the Quote Request?

When you submit a quote request, Beeontrade recommends that you give your best estimate of the shipment’s total weight and volume so that your quote is as accurate as possible.

The cargo will be measured before it ships, and the measurements may differ from what you provided in the quote.

For FCL (full container load) shipments, the cargo will be weighed at the origin port when it is dropped off, and we will use this weight to calculate the freight costs on the invoice.

For LCL (less than container load) shipments, the cargo will be measured at the CFS (container freight station) before it is consolidated into containers. LCL shipments are measured per cbm (cubic meter) unless they are heavy (>800 kgs per cbm).

These heavy LCL shipments will be charged per 800 kgs. The cbm of the LCL shipment at the CFS is what we will use to calculate the freight costs on the invoice.

For air shipment freight costs, the carrier will use the chargeable weight, which is whichever is greater: the gross weight or the volumetric weight. The chargeable weight is what the carrier will use to calculate the freight costs on the invoice.

It's important to note that if the cargo measurements differ from what was entered in the quote request, the invoice may be different from the quote. We will inform you of any changes and the reasons for them before finalizing the invoice.

Why Did the Measurements Change?

The change in measurements may have been caused by the supplier providing only an estimate of the cargo's weight and volume. Additionally, palletization and packaging can add weight and volume to the shipment.

Another possibility is that the measurement equipment used was not accurate, leading to discrepancies in the recorded measurements. It is also possible for cargo to shift during transportation, affecting the overall weight and volume of the shipment.

How will changes in measurements affect the final invoice for LCL and airfreight charges?

The invoice will be affected as these charges are calculated based on the volume (cbm) and weight of the shipment. This includes line items such as container freight station fee, chassis fee, and pier pass fee for LCL shipments.

A change in measurements will also affect certain line items in the invoice that are calculated based on the shipment's volume and weight, which were initially estimated during the quoting process.
