Tariff Quotas | Preferential or Autonomous

Tariff quotas are administered by issuing licenses or certificates of entitlement, which allow the holder to import the specified volume of goods at a more favorable rate of duty

The issuing of these licenses or certificates is generally managed by the customs authorities of the importing country, and they may be subject to specific conditions or restrictions.

It is important to note that tariff quotas are temporary measures, and their volume and duration may be reviewed and adjusted periodically. Importers should be aware of any changes to tariff quotas that may affect their shipments, and ensure that they have the necessary licenses or certificates of entitlement to benefit from the more favorable rate of duty.

Autonomous tariff quotas, on the other hand, are tariff concessions that are granted to a specific volume of goods that are not linked to any specific country/territory.

Autonomous tariff quotas are generally granted to specific sectors or industries, and the rate of duty applied within these quotas is usually lower than the normal third country/territory rate. Entitlement to benefit from autonomous tariff quotas may also be subject to the presentation of the necessary evidence of origin.
