How Do I Estimate Customs Duties?

If you know the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) code for the products you are importing, you can estimate the customs duties you will need to pay

Simply use the following steps:

  1. Enter the HTS code in the search bar.
  2. Calculate the duty rate by multiplying the total value of your imported products (as stated on the commercial invoice) by the applicable duty rate.
  3. Reach out to our experts at any instance for help or assistance.

Keep in mind that additional duties such as anti-dumping or countervailing duties may also apply. If your products are of Chinese origin, they may be subject to Section 301 duties. You can use the HTS code search to determine if additional duties apply to your products.

For example, if you are selling a kitchen knife, it might either be a knife or a ceramic product. If it is a knife, you will find it under Section 8211. But if it has a ceramic blade, you will find it classified under Chapter 69 (Ceramic Products).

In such anomalies, if you are unable to determine the correct HTS code, you can ask your customs broker for assistance or request a binding ruling from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. With the correct HTS code, you will be able to estimate the customs duties you will need to pay upon importing your product.
