Delivering FCL to a Residence: What You Need to Know

Delivering a full container load (FCL) to a residence requires additional considerations and may come with additional fees.

When planning to deliver an FCL to a residence, it is important to note that not all residences may be able to accommodate a full container, so additional logistics may be necessary.

One consideration to keep in mind is that the trucking company may charge a residential delivery fee for delivering to a residential area. This fee is often in addition to the standard shipping costs and is intended to cover the added cost of delivery to a residential location.

Another consideration is that if the residence isn’t able to accommodate a full container, or if the delivery address is more than 100 miles away from the ocean port, your shipment will need to be transloaded.

This means that the FCL shipment will be transferred from the shipping container to a smaller truck, such as a full truckload (FTL) or less than a truckload (LTL). This process will require additional transit time and will incur transloading costs.

It's important to consider these additional logistics and costs when planning to deliver an FCL to a residence and to work with a reputable logistics company that can help you navigate the process and ensure that your shipment arrives at its destination safely and on time.

When delivering a full container load (FCL) to a residential location, options for unloading the container may be limited due to the lack of a loading dock or liftgate. The container will have to be unloaded by hand or with a forklift if one is available at the residence.

Two options for unloading are live unloading or drop and pick, the latter incurring extra costs. If the shipment does not require transloading, it will need to be unloaded by hand during the free waiting period. The client may hire assistance for the unloading process.

If the trucker is requested to assist with unloading, a delivery labor fee will be incurred. Additionally, if the trucker transports the cargo to an indoor location, an inside delivery fee will be charged.
